Surf Camp at Chirije
At the Chirije Ecolodge which has been a main site of occupation of native cultures for thousands of years has also included such activities as surf lessons for beginners but also a place to surf good waves for experienced surfers. The owner and administrator of the archaeological site was the first vice-president of the Surf Association of Ecuador in 1990 and also pioneer in surf travel to Ecuador and its Galapagos Islands in partnership with Surf Express.
The best season for surf in Chirije is from December to May when we get south swells that come from grand southern sea storms that roam the waters south of New Zealand all the way to Chile. The perfect swell is a south swell, that peels left (looking towards the shore) for about 150 yards. The two valleys that comprise Chirije funnel the offshore winds perfectly toward the break, making perfect conditions. Also around Chirije we have other breaks that are known throughout Ecuador which are Punta Bellaca (pointbreak-10 minutes north), Pajonal (beachbreak -5 minutes north), Quebrada ( reef break 8 minutes north), Canoa (30 minutes north) and San Mateo (super long pointbreak-1 hour south).
