Emilio Estrada Icaza resaltó Chirije en una de sus mas grandes obras, Arqueología de Manabí Central, publicada en octubre de 1962. No pudo ver el libro ya terminado, ya que en noviembre de 1961, murio prematuramente debido a un ataque cardiaco. Su investigación se ha continuado con el proyecto arqueológico y turístico de Chirije y dedicamos el sitio en su memoria y a los pueblos que habitaron este hermoso sitio.
