The idea of the creation of The Spondylus Trail (based on the sacredness of the red thorny oyster, important for the pre-Columbian cultures of the region) as a Binational Tourism plan for Ecuador and Peru, was initiated due to the importance of archaeology, tourism and of the ancient past of Chirije.
